The Last Day of First Grade!

Overall, first grade treated Charlie well. He loves math and can’t read books fast enough (right now he is in to the Hardy Boys, A to Z Mysteries, and the Box Car Children). When I asked Charlie what he learned in first grade he responded with, “bar graphs, kick ball, text features, and that’s about it, well, I’m sure I learned a lot more stuff but I don’t want to tell you.” And there you have it!

Rad is 2 Months! (4-10-12)

We love this kid and all the love he dishes out these days. He is eyeing the top spot for the easiest baby ever!

Two months has brought us the following:

Smiles, smiles, and more smiles

Some nights of completely sleeping through the night (he keeps things interesting by not doing it every night)

Cooing and talking to his mom all day

Blowing milk bubbles

A little fighter (he usually keeps his hands in fits next to his face)

Conrad is very aware of the craziness around him and is always flipping his head around to follow the action!

The Sharks!

Charlie played Soccer in the local soccer league (MSI) this spring! The season lasted seven weeks and started the week after Conrad was born. I didn’t think it would be such a big deal but it turned out to be a logistics problem when we found out his practices would be every Wednesday night which is the same night Seth has scouts. We only have one car so it took some planning but in the end it was a successful season and Charlie loved it all. He even scored a goal at the last game!

Charlie had a great coach who wasn’t too crazy with expectations (unlike other coaches I saw). The kids all had a great time and that’s what matters.

This is Isaac, Charlie’s 1st grade BFF. Isaac made Charlie’s transition to living in a new state and going to a new school a lot easier.  It doesn’t get much better than a buddy, a popsicle, and a medal. 

Cunningham Falls State Park!

It was the Friday before Memorial Day and I realized we had made NO plans and had no prospects for any. Thankfully Seth’s boss recommended we go to Cunningham Falls State park.  It was only about an hour north and had everything we wanted for a quick day trip. There was a beautiful 1 mile round trip hike to a waterfall which the kids loved and a warm lake with a beach, it was truly a perfect day! The Lee family came along with us too.

It was bitter-sweat sitting on the beach with our friends Sara and Chad. Their little baby girl was born just two weeks after Conrad. They knew before she was born that she had Trisomy 18 which is a fatal chromosome disorder. They were grateful to have 10 days with her before she passed away. I had a chance to visit during that time and hold sweet little Elsie.  It had only been a month since her birth and of course it would have been more perfect if Elsie could have been sleeping on Sara’s lap at the beach, but I’m sure some day she’ll have the opportunity to do just that (there has to be beaches in heaven, right??)

 

We had been given some buy 1 get 1 free Slurpee coupons and just so happen to pass a Seven Eleven on the way home. A Coke Slurpee is a guilty pleasure but the sugar free mango is not so bad either.
