Welcome to our "new blog." We have officially moved to Maryland and having more than one bathroom is truly as wonderful as we all imagined. We are also eager to get going on our list of "must sees" while we are living so close to our nations capital. Seth is working at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda for 3-5 years so we have time to do it all. We love staying connected with family and friends through blogging so thanks for stopping by!

Utah Trip Part 3- Ackerson Bear Lake Fun!

IMG_8153GEDC1327

Finally, An Ackerson Family Reunion!! This is the first reunion we have been able to attend since 2008! Allen and Missy were in charge this year and picked Bear Lake as the place for fun. We camped at a group campsite close to the beach. We spent an entire day at the beach with a boat, water-weenie, food, and lots of sand to entertain all. It had been years since I had been to Bear Lake and it was even more blue and beautiful than I remembered.

My family had a time-share at Bear Lake when we were growing up but I was a baby during this time and only have  a few vague memories of going. We would always hike the “Limber Pine Trail” together so we did it again on this trip but with 45 people instead of the original 11 (we all missed the “little baby brother” Paul).  It felt good to be back in the Utah mountains.

My brother Allen went above and beyond by being in charge of the boat all day. He was in charge of making sure everyone got enough turns and had a fun time. He was safe and followed the rule of only going 15 while pulling the water weenie (wink, wink). Who new you could swallow so much water while being flipped off one of those? I was proud of Charlie for taking a ride on it  and even Lucy got to go on a short little “safe” ride.  Matthew was content playing with it in the shallow end while it was unattached from the boat. I figured the water would be freezing but it was actually perfect.

There is nothing better than sand at a beach!

Conrad was a gem during the reunion. He got lots of attention, especially from Aunt Missy. A big thanks to sweet Aunt Mandy for warning me that it would be freezing at night so he would need something warm. She came to the rescue with a couple of sweet “Ralphie” suits that Conrad and his cousin Eli wore. During all the cousin fun I discovered Conrad’s first tooth broke through.  I was a little shocked because he was just under 4 months! (By the time we made it back to Maryland he had another tooth to join the first one)

The Boys LOVED the fire and spent much of their time around the pit. Before we left for Utah, we checked out a book out of the library called Are we there Yet? A Journey Around Australia by Allison Lester. The book is about a family who travels around all of Australia in their pop-up trailer. Matthew became completely fixated with pop-up trailers and even more so when I told him that his Aunt Nora had a pop-up and was bringing it to the reunion. It was already set up when we got there but he was right there to watch them take it down.

Missy was a wonderful planner and would write up these cute schedules for us every day. Lucy was a little wild like usual and erased a few of Missy’s schedules, hence the warning. My sister Vanessa made the best French Toast I have ever eaten in my entire life. I still can’t stop thinking about the French Toast and the yummy potatoes too.  Oh and the spiral sliced hotdogs (supplied by Nora) made by Tom. The pin is going around pinterest and it really works!

The kids put on an impromptu talent show, which was fun to watch. The kids also did a craft making little coloring cases from old DVD cases (thanks again Missy). We also played the newly-wed game with all the siblings and their spouses which lead to lots of laughs (my brothers would rather clean the toilet than go shopping with their wives??). I also can’t forget to mention the Raspberry shake from La Beau’s Drive-In. I hope to return to Bear Lake just for another the shake!

Overall we had a great time with our families and were thankful to take part in two family reunions! When we returned to Maryland, Charlie came to me with this brilliant plan, “Mom, I know how we can live in Utah. We’ll drive our car out there and just drive around and stay with different people!” It sounds good to me!

Utah Trip Part 2- Liu Visit!

We squeezed in a night at the Liu home before Eddie left for a trip and Seth returned to Maryland. We joined them for church and then for dinner at their home afterward. It was fun to be together again and  reminisce off all the fun times in the past. We ate delicious desserts  (the theme for the trip) and played a new game (Pirates Cove).

It made me so happy to see Mandy Pregnant! It was a little strange to have her be pregnant and me not.

The kids all had fun playing and watching Netflix together, Lucy really liked Mandy’s chair.

Utah Trip Part 1- Thacker Family Reunion!

We were blessed with a direct flight from Baltimore to Salt Lake. The trip was fine. Conrad and I sat with “The Boys” and Seth sat with Lucy. I definitely got off easy.

We landed around five in the afternoon and my daddy-o was there to great us in the minivan. We dropped him off in West Valley and made a dash to Sam’s Club to get food supplies for the Thacker Family Reunion. We made it to the cabin in good time and were greeted by the entire Thacker clan. We had a fun Thacker family reunion that included “The Thacker’s Family Olympics”, swimming at the Kamas aquatic center, games, lots of food, a treasure hunt, a talent show and more. The three days went quickly by.

Swimming fun at the Kamas Aquatic Center. I think we all could have stayed there the entire day. Conrad’s first experience in a pool= Love!

8-2-013

We did ribbon twirling, the javelin throw (with straws) and the shot-put with extra large marshmallows.  We even had our own medal ceremony!

The Martins and Goodbyes.

Effie’s good friend Eme and her husband Chris live a few minutes from us so we had them over for Sunday dinner. It was a lively group and the food was good.

Swimming with Aunt Effie!

Collette and Mike went off on a little excursion so Effie and I took all the kids to the Rockville pool! It was a perfect pool day and Charlie was brave and did the water slide.

Seth is 31!

It was nice to have family in town to help celebrate Seth’s birthday. We opened presents, had dinner and cake, and then Seth and Mike went to see the new Batman movie. Fun had by all!

Hershey, Pennsylvania and Gettysburg 7-19-12

We were lucky to have a visit from Mike, Collette, Cassie, AND Effie. At the top of their to-do list was taking a visit to Hershey, Pennsylvania and more specifically- CHOCOLATE WORLD. We were happy to go along for some fun and of course a lot of Chocolate.

Our first activity was taking a class where we learned ALL about chocolate. We also learned how to properly eat it (never bite it)!

7-24-013

Next we went on a tour/ride of the chocolate factory. It wasn’t a real factory but it was very entertaining and FREE. We all loved the singing cows!

The ride conveniently ended rite at the beginning of the gift shop/chocolate area! There were stacks of candy everywhere! I was hoping they would have some unique chocolate but everything was stuff you could just buy at the store. Of course that didn’t stop us from indulging ourselves.

Mike and Seth opted to do the “Make Your Own Candy-bar” activity. They got to pick three add-ins and then send it through an enrober machine to top it off with chocolate. Seth also added sprinkles to the top of his. They also got to design their own packaging.

7-24-015

While the boys where away making their candy bars, we took the kids to the the kiss factory. They got to load the kisses into containers, shake them around, and send them off on a conveyer belt. It was free if you didn’t want to take the container home but at that point it seemed a little cruel not to let them have one. Aunt Effie was very generous and purchased all the kiss containers for the kids.

7-24-016

We all had fun at Chocolate World. Conrad even got in on the action with a little Chocolate Peanut Butter shake!! mmm…

Gettysburg was on the way home so we decided to stop and look around. We only did a quick driving tour but are looking forward to going back and seeing more.

He lost his first tooth! 7/12

GEDC1103

I LOVE this picture! Matthew was very excited to lose his first tooth. He had a little help from his older brother. They were playing around with Nerf guns and pillows and Matthew decided to cock his gun with his teeth. At the exact moment he was doing that Charlie through a pillow at his face. This resulted in his first loose tooth!
